Our Story

A passion for Ireland's rarest terrier breed.

The Glen of Imaal Terrier, named after the remote Glen of Imaal in County Wicklow, Ireland, is one of four native Irish terrier breeds and by far the rarest. These sturdy, courageous little dogs were originally bred as versatile farm dogs and badger hunters.

At Finnabair Glens, we are dedicated to preserving this unique breed's wonderful temperament - gentle yet fearless, quiet yet spirited. Our Glens are raised with love and the best of care, ensuring they grow to be the loyal, affectionate companions the breed is known for.

The Glen of Imaal Terrier

One of Ireland's four native terrier breeds, the Glen of Imaal Terrier is a sturdy, medium-sized dog with a big heart and a gentle spirit. Despite their compact size, Glens are surprisingly strong and were historically used as turnspit dogs and badger hunters.

  • Gentle, loyal, and devoted family companions
  • Quiet for a terrier - less barking than most
  • Good with children and other pets when socialized
  • Low-shedding, wheaten or brindle coat
  • Intelligent and spirited, yet calm indoors
